Structural sealants are key materials for connection and sealing in the construction and industrial sectors. Proper installation directly impacts the durability and safety of structures. The following is a standard installation process and key technical points for structural sealants.
1. Surface Pretreatment
Before installation, thoroughly clean the substrate surface to remove oil, dust, and loose materials. For metal or concrete surfaces, it is recommended to wipe with a solvent (such as isopropyl alcohol) and use a sanding tool to increase the roughness to improve bond strength. If moisture or mold is present, the surface must be completely dried and disinfected.
2. Joint Design and Primer Application
Prepare uniform joints (typically 6-12mm wide) according to design requirements. A depth-to-width ratio of 1:1 to 2:1 is recommended. For low-surface-energy materials (such as polytetrafluoroethylene), pre-apply a dedicated primer and allow to dry for 5-10 minutes to ensure a good bond.
3. Mixing and Applying the Sealant
Two-component sealants must be mixed accurately and stirred thoroughly to avoid trapped air bubbles. Single-component adhesive can be used directly. Use a dedicated glue gun to fill the adhesive joints at a constant speed, ensuring a continuous, full, and bubble-free surface. For vertical surfaces, apply glue from bottom to top to prevent sagging.
4. Trimming and Curing
After applying, use a dedicated tool (such as a scraper) to trim the adhesive into a smooth, curved shape. Any excess should be cleaned promptly. Curing time is affected by ambient temperature and humidity; initial strength is typically reached within 24 hours and full cure is achieved within 7 days. Avoid external disturbances or water exposure during this period.
Precautions: Applicators should wear protective gloves and goggles to avoid contact with skin or eyes. Store in a sealed container away from light. The recommended ambient temperature is 5-25°C.
Strictly following these steps will ensure optimal performance of the structural sealant and extend the life of the building structure.
